A bit of KBL Kiteboarding history
Back in 2008, I was conducting beach lessons primarily for international students and backpackers.
In 2009, I teamed up with Neil Joel, an instructor at KP at the time, and together we started KBL Kiteboarding Lessons Pty Ltd.
That same year, I purchased my first boat, a red inflatable, and began offering boat lessons. Shortly after, we upgraded to teaching from jet boats with Neil.
Carol, Neil’s wife, managed bookings and the company backend, while Neil assisted with all the necessary paperwork for local authorities and helped secure an initial loan to stock our first proper inventory. We had a fantastic time teaching and running the business together for many years, creating countless unforgettable memories. Back then, we taught year-round, no seasons needed.
In 2010, we partnered with Boards & More: North Kiteboarding (now Duotone), Fanatic, and Ion. We are still proud dealers for these brands today!
Our business location history:
Out of the apartment in Rockdale between 2010-2012.
Out of the house in Monterey during 2012-2016.
From 2016-2020, we opened the KBL Warehouse in Caringbah, our first official “storefront.”
From 2020-2023, we moved from the warehouse to our KBL Sports retail store in Sans Souci.
2023 – now: We have moved to the new warehouse in Caringbah with a showroom.
Tobi joined our team as an instructor in 2016 and became a business partner in 2017, as Neil stepped off the business about a year or two earlier.
Apart from lessons, we focus on quality watersport equipment for kiteboarding, wing foiling, and SUP. Our aim is not just to offer quality gear but also to recommend the most suitable equipment for everyone based on their skills, needs, and expectations.
After all these years, KBL is proud to have achieved a reputation as one of the best kite schools. Thanks to our skilled and experienced instructors, boat lessons, radio helmets, and the latest equipment, we deliver top-notch training.
After all this time, we definitely know every corner of Botany Bay! At KBL, we enjoy the wind and water so much that we are happy to share our passion with others and make a living from it at the same time!
