A kiteboard bar is the essential tool for controlling your kite. It consists of a control bar, steering lines, power lines, a depower system, a chicken loop, a quick release, a V split, a safety line, and a depower line. While each brand offers unique features, materials, and line lengths, the basic functionality remains consistent.
The two steering lines are located at the back of the kite and are directly connected to the control bar. By pulling one side of the bar more than the other, you can steer the kite left or right. However, be cautious of over-steering, as excessive movement can lead to a powerful kite loop.
The power lines, which connect the front of the kite to the rider, transmit the kite’s power. These lines pass through the center of the bar and connect to the harness.
The line length determines the flight behavior of the kite. Longer lines improve the low end of the kite. With shorter lines, the kite becomes more direct and agile. This is advantageous for freestyle, kiteloops and foiling as well as wave surfing. The standard length of many brands is 24m. Extreme kiters usually prefer shorter lines to get more feedback and control. For most riders 24m lines are the best choice.
